The Heritage Walk in Varanasi was held under the Amrit Mahotsav initiative which was recently launched by the Central Government of India in various regions of the nation. This was started on Friday to celebrate the completion of 75 years of independence for the country on 15 th August 2022. The Heritage Walk in Varanasi was organized throughout the country exactly 75 weeks before that date. The Heritage Walk in Varanasi was a major event in these celebrations.

Various people attended the event including students and professors from the Banaras Hindu University as well as the Assistant Director of India Tourism Office in Varanasi, Amit Gupta and their staff members. According to Gupta, they chose that particular day for the initiative as Mahatma Gandhi started the Dandi March on the same day as well, an event that represents a major development towards the independence of India.

The Heritage Walk started from the birthplace of one of the most respected freedom fighters of the country, Rani Laxmibai, in Bhadaini. From Bhadaini, participants visited Lolark Kund, Tulsi Akhada and ended their journey at the Subah-e-Banaras stage. The various destinations represented and explained various culturally important aspects alongside the importance of the Amrit Mahotsav itself.

Various dignitaries gave detailed accounts about the importance of the checkpoints they encountered through the walk, such as Minister Jainendra Rai, TGA President Akhilesh Kumar, Vice-President Pradeep Kumar Verma, Professor of Tourism Praveen Rana and many more.

The occasion was fruitful and educational for all the participants and helped them to understand the historical and cultural importance of the city as well as such events and locations in it. The large number of BHU students that participated in the event also enjoyed it. Varanasi is and has always been an important historical and cultural asset to the nation and it holds its fair share of locations that conserve and display it. Such initiatives by the government make one realise their importance and the need to know and appreciate them.
