People join hands for a noble cause, Varanasi witnesses another Ganga Cleaning Campaign

The Ganga Cleaning Campaign has been an integral part of the nationwide Cleaning Campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started the cleaning initiative from Varanasi only. Once again the initiative has been launched in the City on Sunday morning.

The first phase

Not only the district administration, Varanasi Municipal Corporation and many NGOs participated in the campaign but also the citizens in the city came forward to join the initiative. This was the first phase of the campaign.

Deepak Agrawal, the Divisional Commissioner and Kaushal Raj Sharma, the
District Magistrate was seen leading the campaign. In the first phase of the Cleaning Campaign it was launched on the 84 Ganga Ghats of the city from Sant Ravidas Ghat to Rajghat.

For Cleaning Survey

The Ganga Cleaning Campaign has been launched keeping in view the Cleaning Survey as well. Dr NP Singh, the City Health Officer informed that the Cleaning Campaign was aimed at creating awareness among people in the city about the clean Ganga Ghats.

The first campaign

However, this is not the first time such Mega Ganga Cleaning Campaign has been launched in the city. Even during November 2014 also the similar campaign was launched by the the city BJP unit.

Photography and videography

Though in the first phase only 84 Ganga Ghats has been covered under the campaign but in coming phases Varun and Assi rivers would also be included. In order to evaluate the result of the cleaning campaign photography and videography was done with the help of drones.

To keep the Gangas clean

A rally was also organised to create awareness about the Ganga Cleaning Campaign. Kaushal Raj Sharma, the DM said that the Cleaning Campaign would now be launched once every month on Sunday from now onwards. This will help keeping the Ganga Ghats clean always.

Members of the Swagatam Kashi Foundation also participated in the initiative on the Darbhanga Ghat of Varanasi. The campaign was divided into 20 sectors and 10 zones to make it result oriented and successful. All the departments in the city had been informed earlier only about the campaign.
